Ford will be delivering two hydrogen-powered Ford E-450 shuttles to the city of Las Vegas, which becomes the first city in the Western US to have such vehicles. Orlando will also be getting these types of vehicles, along with the Canadian cities of Ottawa and Vancouver.
The delivered shuttles are equipped with a 6.8-liter V10 that has been supercharged and modified to run on hydrogen only. Ford announces great advantages from these engines, which are internal combustion units, but are able to be hybridized for further pollution savings and all-weather capability.
The units were introduced by Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, Sue Cischke, Ford senior vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, and Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), who helped to secure the federal grant allowing the city to lease the announced buses.
