Ford’s New and Upcoming Baby Pickup: P525

What with the soaring of gas prices these days, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the maker of America’s beloved pickup truck, Ford, is planning on not one but two compact size pickup trucks.

One of the said compact pickup trucks is based on the F-150. It has the code name of P525 but may be badged as F-100. If you remember (or if you know your Ford history), the F-100 is the prototype of the F-150 way back during the 1950s. Ford is getting rid of the V8 engine for the P525. Now they are planning to tuck a four-cylinder, V-6 EcoBoost engine under its hood (as an option, of course). It has gas direct injection, as well as turbocharging. But what about the other compact pickup truck? The second small pickup truck is based on the Ford Ranger.

The new Ranger has the code name “T6” and is known as the global Ranger. It will be manufactured in Thailand but will be imported from South Africa due to “chicken tax” issues. Another possible location for the manufacturing of the T6 is Australia. After all, it is exempted from the so-called chicken tax.

It is known to the public that Ford is currently struggling with the dip in their sales for their F-Series pickup trucks. Gas prices continue to shoot up and Ford better counter-attack this issue. Could these two compact pickup trucks do the trick?

Sales of Ford Trucks Take a Plunge

It’s no secret that sales of pickup trucks have seen a dip recently. Nowadays, people seem to want more compact cars. One of the factors of this phenomenon is the worsening of the prices of gas. Ford Motor Co. is one of the companies whose decline in their truck sales has hit them hard. The sales of the once popular pickup truck (namely the F-Series) had taken a nosedive. About a year ago, Ford had enjoyed the triumph of being able to sell 228,623 units of cars and trucks. This year is a completely different story. Sales plummeted by 12.2%. This means that only 22,727 units of vehicles (both cars and trucks) were sold. Although the sales of cars weren’t affected, the sales of the trucks were distressed. Car sales actually took a spike by 21% this year. Ironically enough, America’s most favored pickup truck was reported to have a decline in sales by 21%. Even their SUV sales had been lowered by 36% this year.

Ford Motor Co. has been looking into things that would help boost their truck sales. You might have heard of the Ford Work Solutions. It’s all about technology-based features that make work easier and more convenient for drivers and truck owners alike.

On to a more cheerful note: Car sales increased a lot. The new Ford Focus immensely enjoyed amplified sales by 43.5% as compared to last year. Also, the Ford Fusion sedan had a 22.4% sales increase this year.

The all-new Work Solutions Programs makes it possible for drivers to be able to attend to their tasks at hand even while on the road and away from their offices. Ford Plans to Grow Sales in Vietnam

In spite of the dip in their sales last month, Ford Motor Company is more determined that ever to strengthen their sales. One of the steps they took was an investment in an assembly plant located at Haiduong and is said to be worth $10 million (US). With the help of Ford Vietnam’s Haiduong assembly, the capacity for yearly production is expected to increase by 35 percent.

The President of Ford ASEAN has already commented regarding the assembly plant: ““This additional investment highlights the growing significance of Vietnam in our continued expansion and overall strategy for the Asia Pacific and Africa region. We're very optimistic about Ford's long-term potential in Vietnam… Our Vietnam strategy is aligned with our resources and operations in the region, and will allow us to continue delivering high quality Ford products that are built for ASEAN, and specifically Vietnamese consumers.”

The Haiduong plant is the place where the Ford Mondeo, Ford Focus, Ford Everest, Ford Escape SUVs, Ford Ranger pickup, and the Ford Transit van are being currently assembled. “We asked Chip Foose to design a tough, muscular street rod based on the Ford F-150 FX2 Sport pickup that will knock the socks off even the most hard-core boulevard cruiser fan… And let’s make it available in less than a year before the 2007 SEMA show,” the Ford Truck group marketing manager, Ben Poore, had said. Chip Foose was hired to design the limited edition of the popular Ford pickup truck, the 2008 F-150. The star of the television show “Overhaulin” and a winner of “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster Award” seven times, Foose channels his version of a powerful pickup truck with stunning hot-rod influence.

The redesigned F-150 was made to look visually lowered. One of the factors that caused it to look sporty and lowered was the custom rocker panel and the bold stripes running around the exterior of the truck. This Ford pickup truck sported a new grille design, one with horizontal bars. This gives the illusion of a shorter frame. Another trick that Foose added was the lower rocker moldings which made the truck look more lowered than it actually is. The interior was done in a way that matches the strong design of the exterior. Chip Foose signatures embellish the headrests and floor mats. The center console is enveloped in leather with a custom-made badge.

And if you’re wondering if this new pickup truck is simply all about appearances, then its engine performance will put a rest to that. According to the Ford F-150 chief engineer, Matt O’ Leary, “The Ford F-150 Foose Edition is the fastest truck period… And it’s the only performance vehicle to offer the flexibility of the pickup bed.” The truck with the four-speed automatic transmission has a powertrain of 5.4-liter Triton V8. This engine is intercooled and supercharged. It gives of a horsepower o 450 at 5200 rpm. Its torque is 500 lbs-ft at 4000 rpm. It has a Ford Racing exhaust system.

Is There A New Ford Engine in the Near Future?

Ford already owns a Windsor engine plant, dedicated to producing 5.4-liter V8 engines used mainly by F-Series pickup trucks. The company is being talked into tying up with the Canadian Auto Workers for a project which involves a new engine. According to union President, Buzz Hargrove, the said project is expected to bring an investment worth $303 million or C$300 million. He said, “The next few days will determine if we get new investment from Ford.” The proposed project entails a more fuel-efficient 5-liter engine, as compared to today’s Ford engines.

Ford Motor Corporation had said back in January that they were going to introduce a new engine named EcoBoost. This engine will be available as an option come 2009. The Ford EcoBoost’s advantage over the other engines is that it will improve mileage by 20 percent. Hargrove said that this certain type of engine wasn’t talked about during his meeting with the company.

Last January, Ford stated that they are planning to use the V6 EcoBoost engine by 2009 in the Lincoln MKS sedan model. This V6 is expected to produce 340 horsepower. The EcoBoost utilizes turbocharging and is able to force air through the engine but without giving a spike to fuel use. Along with this, there is a direct injection of fuel in a quantity that is small but would be just right. All in all, the EcoBoost enhances a car’s performance without sacrificing fuel consumption.

World, say hello to the all-new Ford F-250 Super Chief, the most highly developed and comfortable pickup that Ford has ever had. The Executive Director of the North America Design, Peter Horbury, had something to say about the Super Chief. He said, “F-250 Super Chief pays tribute to the bold optimism that is part of the American character… The F-250 Super Chief's innovations pave a new path for the American truck. It's a notion – and a modern design – so bold, it could only come from Ford.” And bold it is, with its noticeable grille. The three-bar grille is something of a new statement, seemingly fitting to the American Super Chief locomotive-inspired front end. The cabin of this concept truck is based on the F-250 Super Duty’s 8-foot long bed. With the F-250 Super Chief, 2 feet of bed space were allotted especially for the passenger compartment. For a more convenient access to the bed area, the tailgate hinges on both sides. To add more space, there is an under-bed storage tray. This can be accessed even if the cargo bed is jam packed.

The interior of this Super Chief gives a rugged yet elegant feel. “Well-appointed vehicles are nothing new… But, as premium amenities and finishes become more ordinary, we wanted to push the envelope and show our truck customers – and our competitors – what a truly upscale, distinctly American pickup might look like." J Mays, group Vice President, Design, and chief creative officer, said. They made use of American walnut, brushed aluminum and striking brown leather for the interior. Not just that but the entire roof is made of glass, with American walnut enveloped in leather cutting across the glass roof. The floor is outlined in aluminum, enhancing the rugged yet elegant touch of the Super Chief.

This concept truck relies on hydrogen for running power. It houses a Tri-Flex V-10 engine which produces 400 lb.-ft. of torque. When running on hydrogen, the engine produces carbon dioxide emission which is 99 percent less as compared to running on gasoline. Dr. Gerhard Schmidt is the Vice President for Research and Advanced Engineering. He said, “The Tri-Flex fuel engine encourages the development of the hydrogen fuel infrastructure for the best future mobility solution… It also drives the expansion of the domestic ethanol E85 fuel production and availability and, of course, provides our customers the convenience of gasoline until these other fuels become more readily available.”

Safety is not ignored, of course. The truck uses advanced safety technologies such as BeltMinder and BlockerBeam. The former alerts the driver when the passengers are not buckled up. The latter gives an improved frontal crash compatibility with the other cars. It aids in reducing the risk of both driver and passengers.

Ford to Cut Down Production

Due to the decrease in their sales, Ford Motor Company will cut down their production by 10 percent. That is to say that there will be 730,000 fewer vehicles manufactured. This cut will be done in shifts at their factories located at Chicago, Cleveland, Kentucky, and Louisville.

The second shift elimination at the Louisville Explorer plant will take place around the midsummer, where there are 800 workers expecting the layoff. Bruce Day, the UAW Local 863 Building Chairman, said, “We thought we would get through this, but we are not going to… There will be layoffs.”

Ford is currently cutting back on their once popular trucks, sport utility vehicles and large cars. Ford spokeswoman Anne Marie Gattari had remarked, “This is not something we want to be doing. We would much rather be growing… It is sad that that is how it feels, like arm-twisting.” However, such trimming was needed to be done in order for Ford to live through.

Ford Reports Decrease in Sales

One thing leads to another, they say. There was a reported decrease in the sales of all Ford vehicles, including the most popular truck, the Ford F-Series pickups. Contributing factors are the unrelenting drop in housing and the issues regarding credit. These apparently made an impact on consumers which, in turn, affected the sales of Ford, one of the leading and trusted brands in automobile manufacturers.

Ford Motor Co. said that compared to the 211,150 units sold a year earlier, they experienced a 6.9 percent drop. This means that in the last month, Ford was only able to sell 196,681 cars and trucks. For the longest time, the F-Series pickup trucks were Ford’s most favored and most purchased. However, just recently it was reported that the popular pickup had decreased its sales volume by 4.9 percent, selling only 52,548 trucks. The decline in the construction of SUVs such as the ford Explorer and Ford Expedition also affected the demand for the truck. Taken as a whole, the sales of the Ford pickup trucks had a 5.6 percent decrease while the Ford cars experienced a 9.3 percent decline. Ford cars which were subjected to the decline were the main Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands. If the sales of its Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo brands were to be included, then the sales would amount to the decrease of 6.9 percent.

Due to the sales dip worth nearly 7 percent, Ford said that their production for the second quarter would be cut down by 10 percent.

The Ford Trucks’ Beginnings: The 80s Onwards

The previous post talked about the early days of Ford trucks. It was left hanging with short information about the time it hit the eighties. This post will continue to give more of the at-a-glance history of Ford trucks, this time with where the previous post last left off: The Ford trucks during the eighties.

With a more aerodynamic design, the trucks went through a revamping period. The hood, the grille and the body sides were given fresher looks to reveal a sturdier Ford truck. “Twin-traction beam” was applied to the versions of the four-wheel drive. The twin-traction beam is an “independent coil-sprung suspension.” The “FORD” indication placed in the center of the grille was replaced during 1982. Taking its spot was the blue oval emblem of Ford. Ford Ranger stopped its production and the F-Series models comprised of base, XL, XLT and XLT Lariat. There was yet another engine improvement in 1983 when the 460 V8 with 245 hp and 6.9-liter diesel V8 engines were presented. The new F-150 truck became 1984’s new base truck.

Jumping forward to 1987, the Ford F-Series had undergone major changes such as the new front fenders, hood and bumper. Big changes were also made in terms of the instrument panel, maintenance and safety. Fuel injection was added to the 4.9-liter inline six engine; the output rose by 20 percent. Thus, the 150 hp. Later that same year, the 7.5-liter V8 engine had the same fuel injection. The SuperCab models became shorter in the year 1988 while 1989 witnessed the replacement of the all black unit with the silver and black grille. 1990 offered the Package, which aimed for drivers who needed trucks with heavy-duty batteries, high-capacity radiators and skid plates. 1992 looked more deeply in the aerodynamics application of the F-Series. A new look came about, with so-called aero mirrors and a new tailgate. The XL model was the new base model by the time 1993 came. With a 5.8-liter V8 engine with 240 hp, Lightning was enlisted among the F-Series. Safety was given more emphasis in 1994 when they placed a side airbag on the driver’s seat. Along with that are the beams on the side door ad a third brakelight. The Eddie Bauer edition was introduced. Compared to the rest of the F-Series, it was the most luxurious. Everything in it was powered and it had a two-tone paint. The F-250 Heavy Duty SuperCab and Crew Cab were introduced at 1996.

Other changes the F-150 had gone through are as follows:

1998 – The XLT 2WD models can now have an STX package.
1999 – Three different body styles were offered: Regular Cab, Super Cab and Crew Cab
2000 – The Harley-Davidson edition was introduced.
2001 – The King Ranch trim was introduced. It features leather interior and standard four-wheel ABS. New options were also made available that same year.
2002 – The Harley-Davidson model added more power to it with its new engine: a 5.4-liter V8 engine with 340 horsepower.
2003 – The “Heritage Edition” made an appearance. Its key features were its paint scheme, a different panel and special wheels.

The Ford Trucks’ Beginnings

Ford trucks are one of today’s most successful and most popular trucks sold in the market. Each year, Ford trucks are made even better. There’s Ford Work Solutions, the technologically enhanced features which aid Ford truck drivers to manage their job while being on the go with their Ford trucks. But did you ever wonder how did everything start off, exactly? Listed below is a brief at-a-glance history of how Ford trucks came to be what they are now.

Some time between 1948 and 1952 the first F-Series were introduced: F-1 (half-ton), F-2 (three-ton) or F3 (Heavy Duty). They were the 1948 models. Back then, two engines were made available: a 226-cubic-inch inline six with 95 hp and a 239-cubic-inch V8 which was able to give off 100hp. 1951 was the year that Ford trucks saw a new base engine, which was 215-cubic-inch inline six that gave off 101 hp. Up until 1952, the Ford trucks had undergone some exterior overhauls and mechanical improvements for better performance and tougher trucks.

Ford trucks during 1953 were made to look sleeker and were called F-100 and F-250. The Heavy Duty versions changed their name to F-350. The year 1954 saw improvements in engines as well as the exterior of the trucks. This continued until 1956. An example of this: 223 c.i. with 115 hp.

In 1957 Ford trucks were given lower hoods and flushed fenders. There were two types of body styles: Flareside and Styleside. It wasn’t until 1958 that a new grille was introduced. The four-wheel drive and the two-tone interior trimming were not offered until 1959. It is in that same year that the Ford trucks housed larger V8 engines. By 1960, the trucks had been modified to achieve a heavy, bug-eyed look.

Single headlights and a wider, lower body were brought back. Changes in the look of the grilles happened yearly. By 1965 three new engines were offered: 240-c.-i. inline six with 150 hp, 300-c.i. inline six with 170 hp, and 352-c.i. V8 with 208 hp. 1968 was all about functional improvements, such as the engines. F-100 models got rid of the leaf springs and were replaced with coil springs. A four-door pickup truck was introduced at 1969, which would be of the Crew Cab variety.

Ford trucks were even more improved come 1973, undergoing changes such as having a bigger frame, more space, and noticeable functional changes. The SuperCab was introduced in 1974. It was the extended cab version of the F-Series. Balancing the F-100 and F-250 was the F-150, which was introduced at 1975. It was a half-ton pickup that saw little change until 1976.

Engines were given yet another attention during the year 1977, as options were made available. There were 351-c.i. with 163 hp and 400-c.i. with 169 hp which replaced the option of the 360 V8 engine. The standard base engine for 1978 was 300-c.i. inline six with 114 hp. The Ranger Lariat was launched that year. Square headlights used to be seen in all models except for Custom but that changed during 1979, when all the F-Series trucks were given square headlights.

Ford Is a Top Car Brand

The Brand Report Card study which was conducted recently shed some light regarding brand perception when it came to cars. They revealed that there were only five brands which were able to stand out from the rest of the others brands of automobiles. Ford earned the spot for being the number one domestic manufacturer when it came to overall brand perception. The results were achieved via phone survey by the Consumer Reports National Research Center and said survey ran from the 30th of November to the 3rd of December 2006. The car manufacturers were rated with five categories. Namely, these are the design/style, performance, quality, safety, technology/innovation, and value. Ford is one of the automobile makers (alongside with Toyota, Honda and Chevrolet) which was on the list of sales-volume leaders. Ford has a vast array of vehicle models to offer to their consumers, they have a large network of dealers and they don’t hold back anything when it comes to advertising budget.

Ford Teams Up with GT Technologies

The production of Ford F-150 will soon be taking place at the GT Technologies’ expanded production facility. GT Technologies is an automotive manufacturing firm which will work with Ford. The said company (GT Technologies and not Ford) is bound to produce valve train assemblies which will be fore the new engines of Ford’s most popular and well-loved pick up truck, the F-150.

The Vice President of GT Technologies, Greg Gilbert, had spoken about their latest project. “Today, you can see the addition… Come the end of this year you will see this facility here filled with equipment and people making product for that truck, the Ford F-150.”

The production and shipments are anticipated to begin in January of 2009. To prepare for this, their plant in Tallahassee has been expanded up to 25,567 square feet. Hand in hand with the expansion is GT Technologies’ investment worth $20 million, where the amount of the investment is said to be allocated for new equipment.

Ford is looking to expand their pickup truck lineup, thus the creation of the new WildTrak models. These would also serve as one of the key products of Ford.

The new WildTrak is available in four models with 4x4 and 4x2 formats. The price for this starts at 693,000 Baht. The top-range model, however, is priced differently. It is sold for 917,000 Baht. Senior Vice President Saroj Kiatfuengfoo said, “We see a market within the truck segment that wants the toughness of the Ranger and also wants the style of the new Ranger WildTrak. This year, the 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac has taken a step forward in the name of space and safety.

The 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac has paid more attention to dimensions, safety and houses a V-8 engine. Two different trim levels are also made available: XLT and Limited. The XLT models come with black roof rails, gray bumper cladding and 16-inch wheels. Ford Motor Company of South Africa is planning to invest more than R1.5 million or $214 million (U.S. dollars) for the production of the next generation of compact pick-up trucks as well as Puma diesel engines. Ford Motor Company of South Africa already has two plants in South Africa. One is an engine plant built at Port Elizabeth, where other motor manufacturers have also built their plants. General Motors is one of the big names in the motor manufacturing industry who had also built a plant in Port Elizabeth. The other plant is for assembly which is located at Pretoria. Their staff is consisted of roughly around 4,500 workers. The number of employees is expected to go up by 5,000 when 2011 arrives. This is the expected year when the production is supposedly already bursting and ongoing at a fast pace. It is expected that the year 2011 will mark the period of the production of new pick-up trucks. A great number of the estimated 110,000 units which will be produced yearly will be exported to the countries in Africa and Europe.

The local content is of great magnitude when it comes to the investment. This is currently at 35 percent but it is expected to rise to more than 60 percent soon after. The annual investment will be R2.9 billion or $414 million (U.S. dollars), give or take a few.

Reports have been going around that Ford is currently working on a modified F-150. This new version of the popular and well-loved F-150 is supposed to execute with an impressive high-performance. Being an off-road version of Ford F-150, it is being developed with the internal code name of “Raptor.” This adapted, enhanced version will be sporting a long-travel suspension. Its tires are 35 inches and its engine could possibly be the turbocharged variety of Ford’s famous upcoming EcoBoost engine. With a Boss V8 Engine, the Raptor is said to be lower and yet broader compared to the standard F-150 model. Its capabilities would include being able to pull through at high speed even at the roughest ground.

The EcoBoost engine that the Raptor will have is a part of Ford’s approach in helping improve fuel economy. Ford says that the EcoBoost engine will be able to carry out up to 20 percent better fuel economy and not just that but it will give be able to give out 15 percent improvement in emissions. These are all possible without the harm of compromising the performance of the vehicle. Promoted to be lesser in amount in comparison to the hybrids and direct-injected diesels, it is clear that the EcoBoost engine would indeed be a smart choice.

If the so-called Raptor has passed the set standard and given the green light, it could become available to the public roughly two years from now.

Microsoft and Ford teams up

Microsoft Corp. is not just making a mark in computer technology, now it is also taking an interest in cars.

Just recently, news has come out that the world's biggest software maker is partnering with Ford Motor Co. to produce Sync, which is “a technology platform that uses voice commands and Bluetooth wireless technology to give users voice-activated control of their cellphones and portable music players.”

Sync is available as an optional feature in 12 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models for just $400.

"This is not a new technology," said Ford spokesman Mark Schirmer. "I think what we're bringing to the party is wider availability, more affordability, and the fact that you can buy it in a Ford Focus."

With an electronics module designed by Continental AG of Germany, Ford Sync will be running on Microsoft's Windows operating system especially designed for cars. Nuance Communications Inc., of Burlington also included voice-recognition software. Aside from a Bluetooth radio system, a USB connector will also be included to be able to plug in numerous devices.

Although there will be a limited numbers of cellphones with Bluetooth connectivity that will be compatible to the Ford Sync, Microsoft senior product manager Velle Kolde said that the list of compatible phones are growing. "If you have a Bluetooth-enabled phone, pretty good chance it's just going to work," Kolde said.

Along with the convenience of voice-recognition, the Sync can let motorists download software upgrades over the Internet and use a USB device to add the new software to their cars. This will help motorists get the latest upgrades as well as allow “Microsoft to fix bugs, install new features, and permit compatibility with future digital devices.”

The Sync is catering to a different need if compared with GM's OnStar system. OnStar is for added safety and security while Sync is primarily for entertainment."There's not a lot to compare" with Sync, said Nick Pudar, OnStar's vice president of planning and business development. Official reports have come out about the new Ford Focus ST. Auto Express recently reported that the revised Focus will be available in the UK on January and the ST on March.

According to the report, exterior modifications are very noticeable such as Mondeo-style headlamps, honeycomb grille and a front bumper with integrated foglamps. The rear also witnessed some changes with a revised tailgate and a new diffuser-style bumper for better high-speed stability.

Just recently, reports have come out that Ford trucks and crossover have once again gain recognition as it earned gold at the 2007 Texas Auto Writers Truck Rodeo.

Ford vehicles such as the Lincoln, Mercury and the Ford Harley-Davidson F-250 Super Duty, which was dubbed as "Truck of Texas" and best Heavy Duty Pickup Truck, were given special honors.

"It is a tremendous honor to have the Texas Auto Writers Association recognize a Ford F-Series truck as 'Truck of Texas' for a fifth straight year and a Super Duty for the last three years," said Mike Crowley, Ford truck and SUV group marketing manager. "It's clear that Ford F-Series trucks are king in Texas."

For Harold Gunn, president of Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA), this award is very significant since Texas is known to be the largest truck market. "We use trucks a lot, and we drive a lot of miles in them, and it's clear that Ford 'gets' that," said Gunn.

As one of the largest associations of auto writers in the U.S, TAWA was able to attract 66 vehicles in the rodeo and be judged by 48 registered TAWA media.

Meanwhile, the Lincoln Mark LT was awarded as the best Luxury Pickup Truck while the Mercury Mariner Hybrid FWD being the Compact Sport Utility class. The Ford Edge, on the other hand, won in TAWA’s classes for Compact Utility Crossover and the Lincoln MKX won their classes for Luxury Crossover Utility.

Aside from the vehicle themselves, Ford innovations were also recognized in the event. These are the tailgate step on the F-250 and the Ford SYNC, which is the voice-activated, hands-free, in-car connectivity system for mobile phones and digital media players.

Winners were judged on a course specifically designed for suspension testing, at the Oak Hill M/X Raceway in Decatur, Texas.

"We were going over hills, moguls, ruts, washboards, everything you could come across in regular truck driving," said Gunn. "You should be pretty happy with how you did."

Focusing on Ford’s personalized collection in the SEMA show is ATS Design’s version of a Ford Escape. Widely known for its sturdy and reliable pickup trucks, Ford graced the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas with not one but three powerful and meanest-looking vehicles according to autoblog.com.

Along with the three customized Super Duty trucks, more than two dozen project vehicles including F-150, Edge, Mustang and Focus will be showcased starting Oct. 30.

Meanwhile, Fabtech introduced the Project "Power Storm" F-350 which was lifted 10 inches and received 40-inch tires. DeBerti, on the other hand, chose to bring down a F-450 to suit motorcycle-hauling.

According Ford’s press release, the new F6 X is the first non Falcon-based vehicle introduced by Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV). FPV also plans on establishing new markets as well as offer vehicles fit for the Australian terrain.

"FPV has always had the goal to extend the brand beyond Falcon-based product and I'm very pleased to be able to showcase the first new offering today," FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

"The new F6 X is designed for the family that enjoys performance vehicle motoring and appreciates a true sports luxury feel."

The F6 X is packed with a powerful F6 270 Turbo 4.0-litre DOHC in-line six-cylinder engine capable of generating 270kW of power and 550Nm of torque. Add to that the ZF six-speed automatic transmission and a full-time All-Wheel-Drive system.
The F6 X is also a safe vehicle with advanced features like Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control and four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). The standard side curtain airbags and dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags also helps passengers feel safer.

Its interior only provides comforted and high sense of style with a unique Shadow and Pumice two-tone seat trim, along with six-way power adjustment and three position memory for the driver's seat.

In a recent press release, it is said that for seven consecutive years Ford Motor Company and Newman's Own Foundation remain to help end hunger in America by donating seven refrigerated trucks filled with fresh, nutritious food that will be distributed to the rural areas of the country.

The seven trucks will be donated to food banks in Baton Rouge, LA; Battle Creek, MI; Denver, CO; Jackson, MS; Mineola, NY; Newport News, VA, and Santa Barbara, CA; this year alone. It has been reported that the trucks have reached a combined total of over three million miles and have given 74 million pounds of food to hungry Americans, which is said to be over 57 million meals.

"Hunger is an issue that affects us all for it deprives individuals of a most basic necessity and stunts human spirit and potential," said Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services President, Jim Vella.

"Ford Motor Company's support of Partnership for Hunger Relief through its donated refrigerated trucks and vans is extremely important because of the positive impact it has on thousands of people across America. Just recently, reports have come out that starting next Monday, October 8, Ford will stop the production of the F-series Super Duty pickup for two weeks. The reason for the production halt according to Ford is due to the slow sales, caused by the housing slowdown. Ford's sales analyst, George Pipas said stopping the pickup truck’s production is a way to avoid excess inventory. According to him, the said move has not related to the declining sales of Ford pickup trucks by 20.8 percent last September.

Ford Motor Corp. is getting greener and greener as they recently announced that they will install their patented Fumes-to-Fuel system at its Oakville, Ontario, Assembly Plant. According to reports, the system will convert emissions from the assembly plant's paint shop into electricity.

Reports say that it will first target an internal combustion engine before shifting to a stationary large-scale fuel cell that will improve efficiency. Meanwhile, 300 kilowatts of green energy will be coming from the fumes released by the paint solvent.

"The Oakville installation is the first of its kind in the world to harvest emissions from an automotive facility for use in fuel cell," said Kit Edgeworth, Ford's abatement equipment technical specialist for Manufacturing. "It is the greenest technology and offers the perfect solution to the industry's biggest environmental challenge traditionally."

Such development was made in order to remove volatile organic compounds (VOC) from the painting operations' exhaust air and still make it more useful. This is possible by the carbon beads responsible for capturing the VOCs and later on turned to electricity.

Another great news from Ford is their development of a new environmentally friendly anti-corrosion technology that reduces water use in automotive paint shops by nearly half, and lowers sludge production by 90 percent.

It is currently being field-tested on a small fleet of Lincoln Town Cars. It uses a zirconium oxide vehicle bath instead of the traditional zinc phosphate bath, which contains heavy metals such as zinc, nickel and manganese.

MIT helps Ford develop new technology

Ford is continuously coming up with innovative technologies that will improve their vehicles. They aims to use smaller, more efficient engines while still delivering the performance wallop customers are demanding. One promising new technology is a system developed by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology startup company. Putting a modern-day spin on the concept of water or alcohol injection to either boost octane or cool the cylinder charge, MIT developed a fuel injection system that uses direct injection to deliver a shot of ethanol when the engine is under heavy load. The intravenous drip allows turbocharger boost pressure to be cranked way up, adding a significant amount of power gain.

Las Vegas gets hydrogen-powered Ford E-450

Ford will be delivering two hydrogen-powered Ford E-450 shuttles to the city of Las Vegas, which becomes the first city in the Western US to have such vehicles. Orlando will also be getting these types of vehicles, along with the Canadian cities of Ottawa and Vancouver.

Ford's new vehicle painting procedure is a more environmentally friendly process. The new procedure is said to reduce greenhouse gases by 15 percent and cuts production costs at the same time. The painting process basically involves an advanced chemical formulation of high-solids and solvent-borne paint that is applied in an innovative three-wet application process that requires a smaller, cheaper and cleaner paint shop than traditional paint facilities.

The composition of the new paint resists running and sagging during application. Also, Ford testing has revealed that it also provides better protection against chipping and scratching that traditional paint.

"Painting vehicles has traditionally been one of the auto industry's biggest environmental challenges," said Mary Ellen Rosenberger, paint manager of Ford's Ohio Assembly Plant.

News just came out that Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc.'s (QTWW) Tecstar Automotive Group reached agreement with Ford Motor Co. for the production of the 450- horsepower 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition pickup truck.

Although financial details weren’t disclosed, Quantum said that Tecstar and Ford will manufacture limited volumes of the specialty truck, expected to be available in early 2008

Quantum, Irvine, Calif., provides powertrain engineering, system integration and manufacturing of packaged fuel systems and accessories.

Its shares closed Thursday at $1.30, down 7 cents, or 5.1%.

Ford truck designer talks about the numerous changes done in the F-150. Pat Schiavone is design director for Ford's North American trucks, including Mercury and Lincoln SUVs and crossovers. According to an interview with Schiavone posted in a website, he said that the next model of the F-150 should be “aerodynamic and a little more trucky.”

“Ford F-150 customers like a big, strong, bold truck, so the Super Duty had a lot of influence on it. We knew we could be bolder with the front end especially, because that's what this customer wants. Fit and finish was another big part of it. A lot of the design development we did was around the fit and finish,” added Schiavone.

Regarding the interior, Schiavone said they wanted to have tough luxury. “We felt truck interiors have been stagnant, so that was a great opportunity to completely redefine the pickup interior,” stated Schiavone.
Once F-150’s future was discussed, he said there will be a lot of things to expect in future Ford trucks. He said, “We're going to have to push the design envelope out as far as we can.”

Also, the study revealed that Ford's mod-size sedans were the top choice in the market. Other highlights of the study include Ford Shelby GT500 setting quality standard for sports cars. According to results from the recent GQRS study, Shelby GT500 owners report the fewest troubles among Sports Car owners after three months of ownership. The Shelby GT500’s steering, drivetrain, idle quality and automatic transmission shifting were noted as having the fewest troubles compared to the competition.

The study also showed that truck owners reported the Lincoln Mark LT lead the light duty full-size pickup segment in having the fewest troubles, according to the GQRS survey for the second quarter. “Things Gone Wrong” have been fully eliminated in speed control, exhaust system function and interior trim. Lincoln Mark LT owners taking part in the survey noted significant TGW reductions in squeaks and rattles, seating, and automatic transmission shifting. According to the latest U.S. Global Quality Research System (GQRS) study conducted for Ford, Ford Motor Company vehicles are making dramatic strides in quality and outpacing the industry’s rate of improvement for the third straight year

In the 2007 second quarter GQRS study numerous customers of different brand and models were asked to raise their concerns regarding their three-month-old vehicles. It was reported that Ford Motor Company improved by 10 percent over last year.

Some of the highlights of the said study were Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands impressive performance, improving by 144 “Things Gone Wrong” (TGWs) per 1,000 vehicles to 1,419 – or 1.419 defects per vehicle. This score positions Ford and Lincoln Mercury within a fraction of one problem per vehicle (.057) to Toyota. The survey average for TGW performance was 1.447 problems per vehicle. In addition, Ford and Lincoln Mercury’s customer satisfaction rating climbed 2 percentage points to 75 percent.

Ford's Edge crossover end up being the highest in customer satisfaction. Customers rated the vehicles according to exterior styling, handling on the highway and seat comfort. Ford Edge was also named as the top performing all-new vehicle in J.D. Power and Associates 2007 APEAL study, along with receiving honors in its Initial Quality Study. Ford with surprising earnings

Ford Motor Co. posted a surprisingly their second-quarter earnings of $750 million, making its first profitable quarter in two years.

The car company confirmed that it is exploring the sale of its Jaguar and Land Rover subsidiaries and said its U.S. market share rose during the quarter.

Despite that, Ford's president and chief executive Alan Mulally said investors should not think the automaker has turned the corner to consistent profitability.

"These accomplishments are something to be proud of, but we are not ready to declare victory," Mulally said, predicting substantial losses in the third and fourth quarters.

The company attributed this year's gains to significant year-over-year improvement in all of its automotive operations, and to cost cuts due to restructuring and positive special items that totaled $443 million.

Ford said it is exploring the potential sale of Jaguar and Land Rover based on discussions with parties that have expressed interest in the British units. The company also said it is conducting a strategic review of Volvo "that likely will conclude prior to year end."

"Despite the improved results in the second quarter, we have a long way to go," Mulally said during a conference call with reporters and analysts, adding that he expects the second half of the year to be difficult.

Mulally also said the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover is probable, although no decisions have been made, and that the company is undergoing a strategic review of its Volvo unit.

"We're launching new products with quality, and our team is working hard to consistently build quality into the vehicles we're delivering for customers," said Mark Fields, president of Ford's Americas group, in a statement. "We've redoubled our commitment to deliver more products customers really want -- with quality that rivals the best in the industry."

Ford cars and trucks averaged 1,427 things gone wrong per thousand, and the company's average satisfaction rating was 75 percent. The industry average is 1,447 things gone wrong per thousand, while the average customer satisfaction rating is 78 percent.

New Harley-Davidson Ford truck

2009 F-150 gets a new look

Reports have come out that Ford Motor Company will spend an estimated $1.7 billion to overhaul its F-series pickups for model-year 2009.

Don’t expect a full ground-up redesign, just be ready with some exterior changes like a bold new face with the Blue Oval's signature three-bar grille as well as revised side panels and rear end. Some of the biggest change that the 2009 F-150 will have is a 6-inch stretch and a fold-flat rear seat.

Ford is developing its own 330-horsepower 4.4-liter turbodiesel V8 for the F-series, but insiders say the engine may not be ready until model-year 2011. A gasoline V6 isn't expected until model-year 2010.

When the new F-series is introduced in fall 2008, only three gasoline V8s are expected to be offered: two- and three-valve versions of the 4.6-liter V8 and a three-valve 5.4-liter V8.

The new F-series will be available in three body styles: regular cab, extended cab and crew cab. The F-series cabin will also get an extensive makeover, with new instrument panels, consoles, seats and door trim.

Industry watchers expect to see the 2009 F-series officially break cover in January at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show.

New engine, new concept

Lincoln MKS sedan will be getting a twin-turbo V-6 engine in January. It is said that this concept will create a totally different car. Now the company is saying not only is this new engine — called TwinForce — on the way, but it will come in the form of four-, six- and even eight-cylinder gasoline engines in the future.

Ford is saying the twin-turbo will deliver diesel-like fuel economy, upward of 25% better than non-turbo engines of the same size.

Ford to test plug-in hybrid technology

Starting this year, Ford will be testing its new plug-in hybrid technology , with as many as 20 vehicles on the roads by 2009. Ford teamed up with electric utility California Edison for this specific project. The company not only wants to test the cars themselves, but also the impact they have on the power grid.

A plug-in hybrid uses an electric motor to power the car with batteries that can be recharged by plugging in to an electrical outlet. A gasoline generator or small engine is used to charge the batteries when they run out of energy and the driver can’t stop to recharge.

Ford debuted a plug-in hydrogen hybrid earlier this year in an Edge SUV, but the company has been quiet about a gasoline version. Reports say that Ford Escapes are supposed to be the test vehicle.

New features on the 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

It now sports a 16.8-inch increase in wheelbase from its prior rendition, a revised suspension based on the current Explorer SUV and an available V-8 option.

The Sport Trac rides on an independent suspension for better ride and handling qualities that would also lessen vibrations and harshness. Ford's sophisticated Roll Stability Control is also included. This system helps prevent the vehicle from rolling over in extreme maneuvers by briefly applying the vehicle's anti-lock brakes one wheel at a time if the system detects a potential rollover or loss of control is about to occur.

Ford designed a backup camera technology to help drivers see what's going on beyond the bumper. The new camera technology will be available for 2008 model year vehicles, with the image being shown in the rear view mirror.

The video screen only shows up when you're in reverse, and it gives you both video of what's behind you and the approximate distance you can travel before hitting something. Then the folks from Dearborn, MI threw in the beep sensor as a redundant measure. The technology works remarkably well, and the video screen is even visible in extremely bright sunlight.

Backup camera is not new to the market, they were actually introduced a few years back. They are designed to give drivers of large SUVs, pickups, and minivans a clearer view of the back of the vehicle.

These special test roads can tear up a truck very quickly and test drivers typically do very few runs per day on these routes, and at relatively low speeds.

Ford Lariat photos finally released

The 2008 Ford F-150 Lariat Limited was announced weeks ago by Ford, but it was only recently that photos of the vehicle was released. This photo shows a White Sand Metallic finish that compliments the grille work and the factory 22-inches. Other external features include some chrome running boards, gray headlight bezels, smoked tail lamp lenses, a two-tone leather-trimmed interior and some other cabin accents.

This new F- 150 also packs up a lot of new technology that will improve driving performance. For example, it has Cargo Management System, which increases flexibility for hauling and securely stowing all types of cargo. Safety features were also upgraded for the benefit of the passengers. Li9ke the Rearview Camera System that enhances visibility at the rear of the box.

Ford explorer enters in USA Today's Top 25 Cars and Trucks that Had an Impact

In their celebration of their 25th anniversary, USA Today is celebrating the event with lists, particularly lists of 25's. Yesterday, the listing was about the Top 25 Cars and Trucks that Had an Impact. The 1991 Ford Explorer was in the second spot because according to the paper, it started the SUV market.

Coming in at first was the 1992 Toyota Camry, for the reason that it was the best-seller Japanese sedan and the first to really compete in that previously Detroit-only market.

A makeover for the Super Duty

The year 2008 means a makeover for the Ford Super Duty.

Ford says it worked hard to make the Super Duty interiors quieter, with better insulation, thicker glass and other measures, and the effort paid off.

The interior will receive leather upholstery and nicely textured two-tone door and dashboard trim accented by wood and chrome. According to Ford, the AC system was redesigned for quieter operation and more power.

Super Dutys are designated F-250, 350 or 450 and are available in regular, extended or crew cab, in 6.75-foot and 8-foot bed lengths and with single or double rear wheels.

The new Ranger is here

Another fresh product released by the American automotive company, Ford, is the all-new Ranger one-ton bakkie.

Built at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa's Silverton plant, it features a new exterior design, a completely re-designed interior, increased loading and towing capacity and an all-new common-rail diesel engine.

The new Ranger continues to offer a range of three different body styles. The four-door Double Cab has seating for five adults, while the four-door Super Cab features a pillar-less reverse hinged rear-door system for easy access to the back, and provides additional storage space with load boxes. There is also the two-door Single Cab which is your typical two-seater bakkie.

The Ranger launch also means the introduction of a new engine line-up: a 3.0-litre, common rail diesel that produces 115kW at 3200rpm and 380Nm at 1800rpm.

The latest addition to Ford features a new powertrain, stiffer body and upgraded suspension that is capable to carry a full load and haul a heavy trailer. The Ranger also features a flexible storage system: the side walls of the cargo box are now 60mm taller which translates into a cargo capacity of 1266 litres, an improvement of 166 liters over the previous generation. Tie-down hooks have been repositioned lower in the rear of the box for added security when carrying loads.

It has a larger and longer front suspension, torsion bars and spring bushing, larger wheels and all-terrain tires, a larger diameter shock absorber, and increased leaf spring length to optimize ride quality. There is also a new stabilizer bar, and an improved hydraulic braking system.

For an improved safety, in front the new Ranger offers driver and passenger airbags, plus side impact airbags for the front seats in certain models. Seatbelts are equipped with pre-tensioners. Four-wheel anti-lock braking is also available.

2008 Ford Super Duty pickups may have faulty fuel injectors

Blue Oval News reported that Ford Motor company released a technical service bulletin (TSB) for the 2008 Ford Super Duty pickups with diesel engines.

According to the TSB, certain F-250, F-350, F-450 or F-550 models with 6.4-liter Power Stroke motors manufactured between April 3 to May 21, 2007 may have faulty fuel injectors in cylinders 1, 5 and 7 that need to be replaced with new units.

Ford spokesperson, Wes Sherwood said that the the injectors were accidentally damaged during testing at the supplier's facilities, caused by human error setting up test equipment.

About 3,000 engines have been impacted by the issue, majority of the engines have either been corrected at the factory or are being corrected in dealer inventory. Approximately 250 engines are in customer hands and Ford has notified those owners of the TSB.

Sherwood said the fix only requires a few hours to correct and that there is an ample supply of properly working injectors available to replace faulty units.

Propane-powered F-150 truck by Roush

Roush introduced the first dedicated propane-powered F-150 pickup truck using an advanced liquid propane injection system. It is designed to operate on propane alone and still0 provide the same horsepower, torque and drivability of an F-150 equipped with a gasoline-powered 5.4-liter, 3-valve Triton™ V-8 engine.

The Roush F-150 is available in Regular Cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew cab styles with XL or XLT trim and the full range of bed lengths.

Vehicle start is controlled by a “one-touch” system, where the engine controls take over from the driver to have the fastest possible start with the lowest emissions. The OEM engine control is used with unique calibration values to suit the changes in properties from gasoline to propane.

The maintenance schedule for the Roush F-150 LPI is similar to a gasoline engine schedule with no special oils or change intervals required.

Excelling once more

In 2004, Ford redesigned the F-150 using the new P2 platform. The side windows also changed to a Kenworth "Daylight Door". The eleventh generation of F-150 is identifiable by the 3 total 'F-150' body badges with black numbers/letters on a chrome background. This truck is also identifiable by the large blue Ford oval in the middle and the 'F-150' body badge to the left side on the tailgate.

All F-Series now have the 2 massive "closed loop" front tow hook design as opposed to conventional open hooks, which may bend out or even break. The F-Series can pull up to 30,000 lbs. with just one hook.

The previous F-150 was continued in production until the summer of 2004 as the Heritage model, but continues on sale in Mexico as a less expensive alternative to the more expensive new bodystyle.

The 2004 F-150 earned the North American Truck of the Year award and was Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year for 2004. It also beat the three-time winning Chevrolet Silverado for Car and Driver magazine's Best Pickup Truck for 2004 and 2005. Additionally, over 939,000 F-Series trucks were sold in 2005, a single-year sales record for trucks.

Ford F series leads the pack

Ford took the aero styling with an extremely round nose on the 1997 model of the F-series. A new Lightning model was introduced in 1999, and Harley-Davidson and King Ranch versions were also created. In 2001 the SuperCrew cab was introduced.

Sales of the F-150 surged in the tenth generation to 750,000 to over 900,000 in 2001 leaving General Motors and Dodge behind. But Ford's sales dropped for the final years of this generation.

The F-150 was Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year for 1997.

1997 also marked the introduction of Ford's modular Single Overhead cam (SOHC) engines into the F-150.

Continuing the Evolution

Going back to the evolution of the Ford F-150, this time we will focus on the ninth generation of this most sought after truck. By 1992, truck received a new aerodynamic-looking front end, a new dashboard and the flareside bed returned. A lot of firsts were seen in 1993, including 17" aluminum wheels, gas-charged shocks, and performance handling developed by world-champion driver Jackie Stewart. For the 1994 model an optional CD player was included along with a driver's-side airbag brake-shift interlock and CFC free air conditioning.

Sales steadily rose with this generation. In fact, 500,000 F-Series trucks were sold in 1992 and rose to nearly 800,000 by 1996. With that, Ford had overtaken the combined Chevrolet and GMC pickup sales for the first time in a decade.

The 2009 F-150 model

The Eighth Generation

The 1987 design was more streamlined, and maintenance items were made simpler. Rear antilock brakes became a standard. It was also in this model when manual transmission was revised with five speeds and the flareside box was dropped. Four wheel drive improvements included the addition of automatic locking hubs for the F-150 in 1989 and for the rest in 1991. The four wheel drive models also featured a solid front axle.

The down side in this generation was being notorious for rusting out above the outer bed-side wheel well area. Even with some disadvantages, this eighth generation of the F-series trucks have contributed in the modifications of a better Ford truck we have presently.

A more recognizable Ford

Another major redesign for the Ford F-series by 1980. By this time the new truck had a squarer look, with sharp lines and flat panels. The Ranger trim line was dropped in 1982, since that name was to be applied to the new Ford Ranger compact pickup.

In 1982, the new Essex V6 engine was incorporated with the trucks, but this did not last long. It was then dropped the following year. The familiar F-150 look became the base model for the trucks for 1984. In 1985 fuel injection became optional in the 5.0L model.

Improving and innovating

By 1973, the Ford truck included an option for automatic transmission. It was also during that year that the new Super Camper Special was introduced. It was designed for the much heavier slide-in campers coming on the market at that time.

Ford pickup trucks also went through some change when they released the extended super cab version in 1973. The grill for the same model year featured two silver-metallic plastic inserts divided by an aluminum bar that was part of the main grill frame, with the letters "F O R D" spaced out in a thin rail in the upper part of the grill. Large round headlights were on either side of the grille with the park/turn signal lamps placed above in the same rail where the "FORD" lettering was.

But in 1976, this familiar split-grill design was facelifted slightly to feature black accents around the headlights and a refined appearance overall. Later in 1978, the round headlight design was retained for the regular Ranger, Custom and XLT trim levels. The Lariat trim level incorporated rectangular headlights with optional chrome headlight doors and chrome grille insert. The split grille design was overhauled in favor of a single-piece grille insert design. The headlights were also placed in a more stylized "insert" themselves, and the park/turnsignal lamps were now placed below the headlights. And in 1979, the round headlights were replaced by rectangular headlamps across all the trim levels and the surrounding grille insert that framed the headlamps was now available in either black, or chrome to match that of the aluminum grille frame. Additionally, an optional chrome-plated "F O R D" letterset could now be seen on the hood immediately above the grille.

The numerous modifications have made the F-series became the best-selling truck in America by 1976.

Redesigned for the fourth time

For the fourth generation of the F-series, the truck was completely redesigned in 1961 with a wider look. There were also unibody trucks that were built with an integrated cab and box. They gave thew 1965 model of over 200hp power and the Twin I-Beam front suspension was introduced with coil springs. Both the 1965 and 1966 trucks have a "TWIN I-BEAM" emblem on the front fender.

A 4-door crew cab version was also introduced in 1965, still a popular option. Ford still offers a "Low GVWR" version of each model. It was also in 1965 when the 4.9L straight-6 was introduced. It had 7 main bearings and timing gears. These line of fourth generation were produced from 1961 up to 1966.

Here comes the flares and styles

By 1957, F1 trucks were restyled again. It now has a hood that sat flush with the fenders and a new chrome grille. In the back, the traditional separate-fender body was now called flareside, while a new smooth-sided look was known as styleside. With these types of enhancements, I can say that by this time, Ford is already making the trucks more stylish and not just looking at its performance. Four wheel drive drive-train, which was once outsourced to Marmon-Herrington is now produced in-house by Ford Motor Company in 1959 to the present time. These types of pickups were produced until the 1960's.

The second generation

The F-series was redesigned for 1953 with a more integrated look. The second generation of Ford trucks were sold until 1956. Some interior amenities were new. Including a dome light, lighter, arm rests, and sun visors.The pickups also acquired their familiar names:

The F-1 now became the F-100 (4,800 GVWR max)
The F-2 now became the F-250 (6,900 GVWR max)
The F-3 now became the 1 ton F-350 (9,500 GVWR max)
The F-4 and F-5 from the previous generation were let go

Models of the first generation

I forgot to mention in the previous post that the 1st generation of Ford F1 pickup trucks actually came out in different models based on their capacity. The wide range of choices actually made it popular. People get to choose the type of truck to get depending on their needs.

F-1: 1/2 ton (4,700 GVWR max)
F-2: 3/4 ton (5,700 GVWR max)
F-3: Heavy Duty 3/4 ton (6,800 GVWR max)
F-4: 1 ton (7,500 GVWR max) & optional 1 1/4 ton pkg (10,000 GVWR max)
F-5: 1 1/2 ton

The very first F-series

The first F-series truck, known as the Ford Bonus from Ford. It was introduced in 1948. It was a modern-looking truck with a one-piece windshield and integrated headlights.

This was a factory promotion shot showing the interior of the new Ford Bonus truck. The wider doors allowed for bigger men to fit in. The increased height also allowed for tall men to fit in the truck wearing their hats. Footroom between the seat and pillar has been increased to permit even the size "13's" to get through without stumbling. This shot is designed to emphasize the width and height of the truck..

The F-series

Ford have released so many cars in the past, but their most popular and successful line would probably be the F-series. The F-Series is a series of full-size pickup trucks from Ford Motor Company sold for over 5 decades. Analysts even estimate that the F-Series alone makes up half of the Ford Motor Company's profits in recent years.

Ford CEO's first annual shareholder meeting

Ford Motor Co.'s annual shareholder meeting is most of the time described as a carnival. This year was as colorful as ever thanks to some colorful collection of activists, disgruntled investors and gadflies. The only difference is CEO Alan Mulally was present. Admittedly, he was not surprised on how the meeting went through, for his staff had shown him a video of last year's session so he would not be entirely taken aback.

Ford trucks are definitely in demand, no I'm not talking about the rising car sales of Ford. But they are literally missing from the streets, well stolen to be exact.

According to HPD Ford trucks topped the list of the 10 top stolen cars during the month of April. Though this might sound disturbing that crime rates are up, it is still fascinating that even in the illegal market, Ford trucks are doing good. I still pity the victims of this awful crime.

From Humble beginnings to a worldwide branding

Before I showcase the different innovation of Ford pickup trucks, let me tell you first how the Ford Motor company started.

Ford Motor Company officially entered the automotive market on June 16, 1903,with the release of the first Ford The first Ford, the Model A. One of their greatest contribution to automotive manufacturing was the moving assembly line. It was first implemented at the Highland Park plant (in Michigan, US) in 1913, where the new technique allowed individual workers to stay in one place and perform the same task repeatedly on multiple vehicles as they passed by them. The line was very efficient. It helped the company beat the production levels of their competitors and made the vehicles more affordable.

And from their humble beginning and persistence in making quality and affordable cars. And today, Ford Motor Company is a family of automotive brands consisting of: Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo.
